Woah!
Look at all the great Carpenters songs on "Carpenters"
the self-titled album, sometimes referred to by Richard Carpenter
as the "tan" album. Even though the album cover
only has the Carpenters logo on it, this album is packed with
many of the best Carpenters Songs ever made. I
think my favorite songs from this album are: "Rainy Days
and Mondays", "Hideaway", "For All We
Know", "Superstar" and the "Bacharach/David
Medley".
I
can't imagine anyone else singing "Rainy Days and Mondays"
in the same way that Karen Carpenter sings this song. Karen's
"voice of mystery" and "melancholy" sounds
perfect for both the tone and message of this song.
The
Song "Saturday" is one of my favorite songs where
Richard Carpenter takes the lead vocal. Richard sang this
song on the Television show "Robert Young with the Young".
If
you ever wanted to "see" Karen Carpenter sing "Hideaway",
there's a wonderful rare performance of her singing it on
the Carpenters "Close To You" documentary. "Hideaway"
is a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
What
can I say about "For All We Know" other than that
this is probably on my "top 10" of my favorite Carpenters
songs of all time. It's no wonder that this song was nominated
for, and won an academy award. Like "Rainy Days"
I can't imagine anyone other than Karen singing this great
song.
My
favorite version of the "Bacharach/David Medley"
is the performance that the Carpenters did on the BBC Television
show. The song itself beautifully puts together a collection
of several songs into one wonderful melodic compilation.
