The
Carpenters Legacy Lives On...

- Comments:
"Horizon"
was one of the few original Carpenters albums that I couldn't
find in my parents original collection, which explains to me why
for so long I had never heard one of my absolute favorite Carpenters
songs "Only Yesterday". Some of my other favorites include
"Desperado", "Please Mister Postman", "Solitaire",
and "Happy". I seem to remember Richard Carpenter describing
this album as being a "bit draggy" in his opinion, but
I personally find this album to be one of my favorites among the
original Carpenters Studio albums.
"Only
Yesterday" and "Yesterday Once More" are probably
my two favorite Carpenters songs. The first time I heard "Only
Yesterday" was on the TV documentary "Close To You:
Remembering The Carpenters", and it wasn't until years later
that I finally bought the "Horizon" CD, mainly for this
song. I do want to point out that the version of "Only Yesterday"
on the "Horizon" album is slightly longer than on some
of the other Carpenters compilation albums/CDs.
"Desperado"
was one of the songs that were a pleasant surprize for me when
I first listened to my "Horizon" album/CD. What a great
song. This is another one of those songs that sounds perfect with
Karen Carpenter's voice.
"Please
Mister Postman" is one of my favorite "upbeat"
Carpenters songs. I especially love the music video for "Please
Mister Postman", from the Carpenters "Gold" DVD,
where Richard and Karen Carpenter sing the song at Disneyland.
"Solitaire"
is very similar to "Desperado" in its very slow and
melancholy sound and is just as beautiful.
The
final song "Eventide" has the same medly as the first
song "Aurora" and is a perfect "bookend" song
to finish the entire album.
