The
Carpenters Legacy Lives On...

Ticket
To Ride / Your Wonderful Parade - single:
It's
been known that the Carpenters were Beatles fans and it shows
with the recording of their own version of the Lennon/McCartney
song "Ticket To Ride". The Carpenters version has
a wonderful nostalgic or almost slightly sad rendition of
the song.
The
Carpenters "Ticket to Ride" single, while not an
overwhelming success at the time, did remain on the Billboard
chart for about three months. Apparantly
because of the "average" performance of the album
"Ticket To Ride" and its single, there was some
pressure put on A&M's Co-founder Herb Alpert to let the
Carpenters go. Thank God Herb recognized the potential of
both Richard and Karen Carpenter. Ironicallly, "Ticket
to Ride" is now seen as a favorite of Carpenters fans.
Ticket
To Ride was re-recorded in 1973, with Karen re-recording her
vocals and drum solo, along with the addition of Carpenters'
guitarist Tony Peluso performing on electric guitar.
