The
Carpenters Legacy Lives On...

Goodbye
To Love
Goodbye
To Love / Crystal Lullaby - single:
The
idea for the Carpenters song "Goodbye To Love" came
about after Richard Carpenter saw an old Bing Crosby movie. In
this movie Crosby plays a song writer who wrote a great song called
"Goodbye To Love". From the movie, Richard and friend/lyricist
John Bettis wrote their own idea for what a song with that kind
of title would sound like. "Goodbye To Love" became
the first Carpenter/Bettis composition to be released as a single.
"Goodbye
To Love" not only became another Carpenters top 10 hit, but
it also introduced listeners to a new form of music, by using
what's called a "fuzz-guitar" solo within a ballad song
context. The guitar playing was supplied by Tony Peluso, who would
later go on to becaome a regular band member with the Carpenters.
