The
Carpenters Legacy Lives On...
Only
Yesterday
Only
Yesterday / Happy - single:
"Only
Yesterday" became the last top 10 hit of the Carpenters
in May of 1975. I'm not sure if "Only Yesterday"
is my favorite Carpenters song, but it sure comes close. The
first time I actually heard this wonderful song was while
watching the PBS documentary "Close To You" Remembering
The Carpenters. Since then, it's probably the Carpenters song
that I most frequently play.
I
also really enjoy the "Only Yesterday" music video,
which is on the Carpenters "Gold" DVD. The music
video shows Richard and Karen Carpenter singing the song in
a beautiful, lush garden, which greatly reflects the tone
and message of the song. Most Carpenters fans already know
this but just in case you don't, the Carpenters filmed the
video at the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens in
San Marino California. I hope to visit there someday. You
can check out their website at: www.huntington.org
"Only
Yesterday" has a wonderful sound and message of promise
and hope for the future, and is enhanced with wonderful violin
music in the background. I tip my hat to Richard Carpenter
and John Bettis for writing this wonderful song.
