The Carpenters Legacy Lives On...

Karen and Richard Singing "Ticket to Ride"

The Carpenters Songs and Lyrics: T-V

This is by no means a complete Carpenter's song list, but I intend to add more and more songs as time goes by.

Some of these songs were not actually written by the Carpenters, however many of them were made popular by the singing of Karen Carpenter and the arrangements of Richard Carpenter.

Carpenters Songs: T-V

Those Good Old Dreams Lyrics

As a child I was known for make-believing
All alone I created fantasies
As I grew people called it self-deceiving
But my heart helped me hold the memories

As I walk through the world I find around me
Something new, yet familiar's in the air
I feel it ev'rywhere
Like a child's eyes
On a christmas night
I'm lookin' at you now
Finding answers to my prayers

(*) it's a new day for those good old dreams
One by one it seems they're comin' true
Here's the morning that my heart had seen
Here's the morning that just had to come through
Same old stage but what a change of scene
No more dark horizons, only blue
It's a new day for those good old dreams
All my life I dreamed of lovin' you

You're a spark of a long forgotten fire
You're a touch of a slowly growing wind
You're a taste of the ever-changing seasons
Telling me there are some things that don't end
We have left all the darkness far behind us
All those hopes that we held along the way
Have made it to this day
Like an old love song
Gone for much too long
You hear it once again
Ant it carries you away

Repeat (*)

It's a new day for those good old dreams
And it's all because of you

Notes: "Those Good Old Dreams" was originally released on the "Made In America" album in 1981. More information about "Made In America" can be found here.

Ticket To Ride Lyrics

(*) I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeah
The boy that's driving me mad is going away

(**) he's got a ticket to ride
He's got a ticket to ride
He's got a ticket to ride
And he don't care

He said that living with me
Is bringing him down, yeah
He would never be free
When I was around

Repeat (**)

Don't know why he's ridin' so high
He ought to do right
He ought to do right by me
Before he gets to sayin' good-bye
He ought to do right
He ought to do right by me

Repeat (*)
Repeat (**)

Don't care
Think I'm gonna be sad...

Notes: As many of you know, the song "Ticket To Ride" was a Beatles classic from 1965. The Carpenters rendition of the song was originally released on the "Offering" album in 1969, and later was re-released under the album title "Ticket To Ride". More information about the "Ticket To Ride" album can be found here.

Top of the World Lyrics

Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in most everything I see
Not a cloud in the sky
Got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream

Everything I want the world to be
Is now coming true especially for me
And the reason is clear
It's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen

(*) I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world

Something in the wind has learned my name
And it's tellin' me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me

There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here

Repeat (*) twice

Notes: "Top of the World" would rank as one of my top 10 Carpenters songs of all time, maybe top 5. The song became another number one hit for the Carpenters. The song was originally released on the "A Song For You" album in 1972. More information about the "A Song For You" album can be found here.

Touch Me When We're Dancing Lyrics

Play us a song we can slow dance on
We want to hold each other
Play us a groove so we hardly move
Just let our hearts beat together
Oh baby, 'cause it feel so good
When we're close like this
Whisper is my ear and let me steal a kiss

(*) Come on and touch me
When we're dancing
You know you've got that loving touch
(Loving touch)
Touch me when we're dancing
I want to feel you when I'm falling in love

Tonight's the night and it feels so right
My heart is saying it to me
You're the one I've waited for so long
So let your love flow through me
Oh baby, 'cause it feels so good
Just to be this close
You've got me up so high
I could fly coast to coast

Repeat (*)

Notes: This is one of my favorite songs from the "Made In America" album. Additional information about the "Made In America" studio album can be found here.
